Palate:
This Chardonnay has lovely elegance with persistent stone fruit flavours. Dry in style, medium bodied and finishes with a clean, bright, soft acidity.
Cellaring:
5-6 years of aging will provide a nutty, rounded complexity but many will enjoy it for its primary youthful appeal.
Winemaking:
McLaren Vale provides good climate for Chardonnay and growing conditions in 2021 were ideal. We have it harvested while the acidity is still vibrant and sugar level not too high to retain elegance. Some flavoursome pressings were re-incorporated into the free run and the wine fermented with a neutral yeast. The French oak used provides a subtle background to the fruit, while maturation on lees has helped provide the persistence of flavour. We have elected to make a dry style.
Background:
Roses are synonymous with the Hamilton family with rose gardens surrounding our vineyards in McLaren Vale. The Rosette series proudly celebrates the family’s long standing in the South Australian wine industry since 1837.
Vintage Conditions:
2021 was an excellent vintage in McLaren Vale. Early spring rainfall provided the moisture necessary for new vine growth. A very dry November was ideal for flowering which occurred quickly and provided good fruit set. Mild conditions in December and January with replenishing rainfall in late January and early February was followed by a late summer free from high temperatures. The scene was set for later that normal veraison and slower ripening. Chardonnay ripened in mid February and the reds in March and April, making it a later vintage than average. Wine quality is outstanding.
